There are so many choices, so if you’ve never visited therapists in your past it can be quite confusing to know which one you should see. When you realize that you need help and you finally reach out in search of a psychologist, you may become overwhelmed trying to find the right one for you. Talking to someone about your innermost feelings, relationship problems or issues with children are all topics that you’ll want to discuss only with a trusting person that you feel comfortable talking to.
There is a national registry for psychologists that can be looked into to find licensed persons in your area. That’s one way of obtaining a list of names of people who are licensed in your area. If you already have a name, as long as a psychologist is licensed in your state (simply ask for their license number), that is usually sufficient -to start with. There is also the option of listening to the recommendations of people you trust; however, if you are seeking help and do not want to share this with people you know, this may not be the right option.
